President Barack Obama and presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton hit the campaign trail together on Tuesday, stopping in Charlotte in an attempt to woo North Carolina voters. Following a rally in the city, the Democratic duo stopped off for some barbecue. Obama and Clinton placed a to-go order at Midwood Smokehouse, reports the Charlotte Observer.
It isn’t the first time President Obama has made a pit stop for ‘cue during his travels. On this particular occasion, he made a point of extensively sampling Midwood’s offerings by ordering pulled pork, brisket, and “a variety of sides,” according to the Observer. Clinton, on the other hand, chose a combo plate with chicken and ribs, reports WSOC-TV, the city’s ABC affiliate. It’s a savvy move by the two, covering as much ground on the menu as possible.
Midwoods is described as a Texas-style barbecue joint, so it remains to be seen if the meal will upset North Carolinians who are proud of their own barbecue heritage. WSOC says Obama and Clinton arrived at 5:05 p.m., and they were out the door at 5:22.
Over the course of her campaign, the former Secretary of State has partaken in many of this country’s foodways. Clinton has eaten ice cream and cheesecake in New York City, Chipotle in Ohio, and pizza in Pennsylvania, among other delicacies.
